Tea farmers from West Mugirango in Nyamira now wants the area MP to disburse CDF funds towards construction of more buying centers in bid to reduce the distance they cover when selling the commodity.
A number of them said it was cumbersome for them to maneuver in the sloppy highlands of Gusii due to limited number of tea buying centers.
They said the CDF kitty should be dispatched by the constituency to such projects just like their neighboring Kitutu Masaba.
“As tea farmers, we are very frustrated with the distance we cover just to sell our commodities. The region is quite hilly and buying centers are scattered making it difficult for some of us to reach them,” said Moses Ndubi one of the farmers.
“The CDF kitty was not just meant for bursaries to our children or renovating schools and hospitals. We have seen our neighbors in Bogetutu having buying centers built through the kitty. James Gesami should consider that as soon as possible,” said Wesley Momanyi another farmer.
They threatened to storm constituency headquarters in Kebirigo Township if their plea was not granted besides promising to rally against the legislator.
“The matter is very simple. We understand that representatives of the MP are always with us and they know this predicament. We will storm their headquarters and compel them to support these projects. We need at least five buying centers per zone because now we only have three,” added Momanyi.
