A nominee for the Uasin Gishu County Executive for Lands and Housing was on Thursday at pains to explain why he had also been shortlisted for another position in the neighboring Nandi County.
Appearing before the Assembly Committee on appointment for vetting, Eng. Nelson Maritim was also put to task over his native home.
"Where is your rural home? Is it in Uasin Gishu or Nandi because according to your CV it seems you belong to Nandi. If given this job who will be happier, people in Nandi or Uasin Gishu," asked Nancy Sang, a nominated MCA.
"We are also aware that you have been shortlisted for another job in Nandi, does this confirm our fears that you actually belong there and not one of us," she added.
While responding, Eng. Maritim admitted to having applied for a position in Nandi county but insisted that his preference was in Uasin Gishu.
"I was born in Nandi but I have since shifted my base to Uasin Gishu and my children's rural home is in Kapseret," said the nominee.
"Its true I applied for a CeC post in Nandi but there's nothing wrong with that. We have agreed as a family that I won't be going for that interview. If I fail on this I'd rather go back to my teaching job at Moi University," he added.
Eng. Maritim has also been shortlisted as a Chief Officer in Nandi County. He has been serving as a Chief Officer in the Lands and Housing docket and if he succeeds, he would be taking over from his boss, Robert Ng'isirei who was sacked by governor Mandago.Ends
