The County Government of Uasin Gishu will not tolerate illegal logging of trees by unlicensed members of the public.
Speaking on Tuesday during the 13th Kenya Meteorological Society (KMS) International Conference held at an Eldoret hotel, the County Executive in charge of Water, Environment, and Natural Resources Mary Njogu said that weather had become unpredictable due to the environmental interference by man.
She noted that the County Government of Uasin Gishu in conjunction with Kenya Forest Service had put a notable effort in the recent past to curb the deforestation menace.
This has been done through the planting of trees along river Sosiani as well as attempts to restore Kaptagat forest.
On waste management, Njogu said the County is well equipped with trucks and skip containers meant for the transportation of garbage.
"We have also engaged private garbage collectors who assist the County staff. Plans to kick off recycling of waste at our damp site are also underway," she said.
A few years ago, the County's department used to collect around 250 tonnes of waste in a day but the narrative has currently changed to 400 tones.
According to the Deputy Director Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) Dr. Samwel Marigi, farmers need to take note of all findings given out by the department so that they can plan when to plant.
"We are looking forward to increasing the number of weather stations in Uasin Gishu County to help farmers on matters weather forecasts," he added
