Roads, Transport and Public Works County Executive Committee member nominee in Uasin Gishu Eng. Gideon Birir has blamed aging staff for poor turnout in the department.
Speaking when he appeared before the Uasin Gishu County Assembly Committee on Appointment for vetting on Monday, Eng. Birir who has been nominated to retain the docket he held in the first term of Governor Jackson Mandago's said there was need to employ younger staff so as to improve efficiency.
"The major challenge that my department has been facing is the old workforce that we inherited from the defunct local government authorities and my suggestion on addressing this would be for the count to employ young and vibrant staff to inject new blood in the department," Eng. Birir said.
"Lack of resources has also slowed down our work mainly in road construction and maintenance especially after a further 3,000km or roads were devolved on top of the original 3,000km that we were working on," he added.
Birir was responding to questions from Members of County Assembly who had put him to task over his performance for the past four years.He is among the only two CeCs together with Mary Njogu in the Environment that were retained by governor Jackson Mandago.
