Sub County and Ward administrators in Mombasa underwent a vigorous training on the Mombasa County Action Plan for preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (MCAP-PCVE) - a document developed by the County and stakeholders which aims at preventing and countering violent extremism.
Through the facilitators from HAKI Africa organization, the officials were on Friday enlightened on the plan including its different pillars and the roles they can play in countering violent extremism with the community at the grassroots.
In various group discussions, the administrators also identified issues affecting implementation of MCAP-PCVE and came up with recommendations of how to address them.
Mombasa Youth, Gender Sports and Cultural Affairs CeC Kevin Munywoki Kyalo who graced the training said the Department was coming up with an empowerment and skills development programme targeting youth and women as part of its endeavours in alleviating poverty that leads in radicalisation of youth and other vices.
The County government led by Governor Hassan Ali Joho also held meetings with key stakeholders on Wednesday under the CVE colloquium 2018. where they discussed issues surrounding violent extremism in the Coast region.
