Uasin Gishu CeC in charge of Agriculture Samuel Yego has urged farmers in the region to join cooperatives.

“I want to call upon farmers to join cooperatives for them to be empowered financially loans at a low and subsidized rate thus improving their livelihoods. Going the cooperative society way is the only remedy for problems facing farmers and will comprehensively solve them,” he said in Eldoret town, Monday.

“This is the only way for them to access farm inputs at a subsidized price thus reducing the cost of production and as county government, we will only give funds to farmers to cooperatives,” he added.

He, however, advised farmers to spend their borrowed money since at the end of the day they will have to pay with the interest and should refrain from using it for the luxurious purpose.

He challenged Cooperative Societies to benchmark themselves with the best and urged members to increase their savings for them to enjoy a host of products such farm inputs at a lower price.
