Uasin Gishu County is likely to face maize shortage this year.
CeC in charge of Agriculture Cyril Cheruiyot said this is due to the drought and armyworm infestation that badly affected farmers.
"This year we are expecting to harvest 2.7 million bags of maize which is a drop from last years 4.2 million bags," he said in Eldoret town, Wednesday.
"Moiben, Turbo and Soy sub-counties that produce allot of maize were badly affected by armyworms and drought thus causing this huge drop in maize production," he added.
Cheruiyot urged farmers to take their maize produce to National Cereals and Produce board to avoid exploitation by brokers.
He, however, called upon youths to embrace Agriculture instead of looking for white car jobs which are scarce.
"Agriculture is the only sector that has untapped potentials. Youths should stop this norm that farming is for the old and instead try since its making people millionaires," noted Cheruiyot.
