The Council for East and Central Africa Football Association (Cecafa) has hit out at the  Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) after the Southern Africa nation withdrew from the tourney with only three days to kickoff.

Secretary general Nicholas Musonye on Wednesday slammed the guest country for citing irrelevant grounds for withdrawing saying their action would not affect the bonanza.

"We are losing nothing from their withdrawal. They are playing tricks,if they did not have money for transport they should have let us know", Musonye said.

Zimbabwe who were pooled alongside defending champions Uganda Cranes,Burundi Ethiopia  and South Sudan cited a volatile situation in the host nation Kenya as their grounds for abandoning the tourney set for December 3.

They were set to play Uganda in their opening match on December 4.

It now remains to be seen how the event organizers will play the delicate balancing act cinsidering that the teams have now been reduced to nine.
