Runyenjes Member of Parliament Cecily Mbarire has lost by more that 18,000 votes to Embu Governor Martin Wambora in the Jubilee governor nominations.

Mabarire was Wambora’s only opponent in the race. He garnered 60,549 votes while Mbarire got 41,987.

The tally started on Tuesday night and ended 5pm on Wednesday in all the four constituencies in Embu county.

Wambora will now face senator Lenny Kivuti, who is vying for the seat on a Maendeleo Chap Chap ticket, and businessman Kithinji Kiragu on PNU, in the August 8 polls.

Voters appeared to be punishing all 'perceived enemies' of the Governor as all aspirants allied to Mbarire lost heavily in the nominations.

Mbarire lost heavily in all polling stations in her Runyenjes constituency, where she garnered only 7,415 votes against Wambora's 30,206.

In Manyatta constituency, Wambora got 22,560 votes to Mbarire's 7,040.

In Mbeere south sub county the Governor got 4,296 to the MP's 15,381.

In Mbeere north sub county Wambora got 4,047 votes to Mbarire's 12,151.
