County Executives Committee (CeC) members have called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to undertake its activities in a transparent manner so as to improve public trust and confidence in the electoral process.
They have asked the IEBC to ensure timely procurement and deployment of technology, develop a credible voter register and a credible electoral process management system in order to deliver Presidential and other electoral results in a transparent, efficient and credible manner.
Through the Council of Governors, the CeCs said there was need for IEBC to ensure adequate security in all polling stations and tallying centers, and create an enabling environment for citizens to effectively participate in voting for their leaders.
They asked the National Gender and Equality Commission, political parties, Kenya Association of Persons with Disabilities among other stakeholders to ensure they are included in the electoral process.
"There is a need to enhance inclusivity in the electoral process by enhancing participation of youth, women, people living with disabilities, religion diversity and the aged, and to minimize polarity between the Executive and County Assemblies through dialogue,'' said CeCs, Thursday.
CeCs said stakeholders should ensure they enhance participation of youth, women, people living with disabilities, religion diversity and the aged, to minimise polarity between the Executive and County Assemblies through dialogue, and balanced opinions.
The Executives have further challenged the National Electoral body to ensure they conduct awareness campaigns.
IEBC was also asked to provide civic education for voter registration, so as every Kenyan with a national ID could register and participate in the 2017 general elections.
