Eldoret town was on Monday evening brought to a near standstill as hundreds of Jubilee Party supporters thronged the streets to celebrate the declaration of Uhuru Kenyatta as president-elect.

Celebrations and dance to Jubilee songs characterized the joyful mood among the Jubilee die-hearts who blocked the busy Uganda-Road causing a traffic snarl-up in the town.

Some of the supporters carried placards written different messages among them 'Si Uchawi ni Maombi' perhaps to explain that President Kenyatta won the election because of prayers and not witchcraft.

Other placards read 'Uhuru aapishwe No case' and 'Baba Bondo express' with some of the supporters carrying loafs of bread to probably pass across a message that there will be no coalition government.

The climax of the celebrations came as local politicians led by Deputy governor Daniel Chemno, Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei and MPs Oscar Sudi (Kapseret) and Silas Tiren of Moiben joined the crowd at the infamous Silverline where they gave brief speeches.

“Politics is now over. We have the President and its time we went back to doing our daily activities as we work on building our country together,” Sudi said.

“What we want now is for peace to prevail. It doesn't matter whether you voted or not, the important thing now is for as to remain peaceful and live together as brothers and sisters,” added Chemno.
