Kenyan celebrities have been urged to give back to communities from which they come from by supporting orphans and vulnerable children.
Bondeni Children Home and Rescue Centre director Florence Gitau said the move would promote efforts to support the children who she referred to as most needy in the society.
Gitau expressed concern over the overwhelming number of children in need, arguing that those living in the rural areas were most affected as compared to ones in towns and cities, hence reason for the call.
"The rate of OVC's in the country is overwhelming hence need to join hands in supporting needy children," said Gitau.
She said the government alone cannot effectively address plight of the children due to increasing numbers and inadequate resources and funding for related programs to support initiatives geared towards improving living standards of the vulnerable children.
The director said there was need for more well wishers, stakeholders and individuals to join hands in ensuring needy children are well brought up to grow to responsible adults and realize their lifelong dreams.
Gitau said the celebrities are in better positions of reaching out and sensitising masses, including those in remote villages through their fame and presentations on need to saise money to support needy children they live with in the society.
