The county-run medical facility owed the power company Sh471,099 in unpaid electricity bill.

Patients had to be transferred from the hospital, located in Mombasa West, to Coast General Hospital for treatment.

The cement company's management was seemingly touched by the plight of pregnant women and other patients prompting them to settle the bill.

The directors however declined to be photographed insisting that the move was part of the entity's social responsibility.

"We do not want patients to suffer. We came in as a Good Samaritan. It is part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR),” said Mr Mohamed Akram, the company's Human Resources Manager.

Medics at the hospital as well as patients were pleased with the move, and thanked the company for addressing the issue.

“It is a good thing that electricity has been restored. At least we can perform minor surgeries that had been suspended due to lack of electricity,” said a medic, as quoted by the Nation.
