Clerics from Central Kenya region have lauded the National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate Raila Odinga for opting to seek legal redress after disputing the August 8 general election outcome.The opposition had hinted at calling for mass protests to oppose the declaration of President Uhuru Kenyatta of Jubilee Party as the winner of the poll held early this month. NASA on Friday filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking to annul Kenyatta’s win in the election conducted by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).“We thank Raila and NASA leadership for agreeing to file their petition in the Supreme Court. It is a huge sigh of relief for the country. The atmosphere was apprehensive,” said Bishop John Wariri on Monday, as quoted by the People Daily.The clerics, under the umbrella of Central Region Gospel Ministries, urged the two leading presidential contenders to call on their supporters to remain calm as they wait for the Supreme Court verdict.“We are calling upon President Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila to take advantage of their influence to unify the nation,” said Bishop Isaac Njoroge Muhia."We also urge the public to be wary of speculation of unconfirmed reports especially on social media," he added.
