Tharaka Nithi leaders led by Governor Muthomi Njuki want President Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto to consider people from the county as they settle for cabinet ministers.
According to the leaders, their neighbours from Meru County have enjoyed power since independence, yet Tharaka is yet to hold a cabinet seat.
The leaders say it was time one of their own was appointed into the cabinet.
The governor, who was accompanied by Patrick Munene insists their neighbours in Meru are now angling more position in cabinet yet they have never had any.
“Meru region is divided into two counties; Meru County and Tharaka NIthi Counties. Meru has had cabinet secretaries and at times two or more in office, this time round, as a county, let us get a cabinet secretary for once,” said Munene.
“From time immemorial, when I was young, I used to hear of minister Angaina, Mukendia, Kaimenyi, they are so many. Does it mean Tharaka Nithi County can’t produce a cabinet minister,” asked Governor Njuki.
Lobbying from different leaders who want to be in parliament has been going on in the past few days, with leaders close to the president and his deputy trying their best to have their names in the list of cabinet secretaries.
