A Nairobi Court on Tuesday summoned the Nairobi Central police station OCS over claims that the conditions of the police cells are poor.
Milimani chief magistrate Francis Andayi issued the summons after a suspect claimed that he was mistreated at the station and that the conditions of the cells are inhuman and degrading.
The accused, Mr Robert Kuria who is facing charges of impersonation told the court that the police station does not have toilets, bathrooms and water, among other amenities.
The accused said he had endured the inhuman conditions since Monday following his arrest adding that the odour of human excreta forces suspects to spend the night huddled in the corridors.
“When l wanted to use the toilet, l discovered that there was none, no running water and the floor was already full of human excreta,” said Mr Kuria as quoted by the Star.
Mr Kuria was being accused of allegedly impersonating an officer of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya in the CBD.
The court heard that the accused person committed the offence on November 13, at Eudiko Communications Ltd offices in Victoria Court House on Tom Mboya Street.
The prosecution told the court that the accused pretended to be an officer of MCSK and approached Mr Richard Wafula and allegedly demanded Sh31,000.
The accused however denied the charges before the court and filed an application to be released on bail.
Magistrate Andayi granted the application and ordered he be released on a Sh200,000 bond or Sh100,000 bail.
The hearing will continue on December 6.
