The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has released the, May, forecast, showing most parts of Kenya will receive adequate rainfall.
According to KMD's Multi-hazard Services Division, assistant director, Peter Macharia, Lake Victoria basin and most of the Rift Valley counties will receive afternoon showers and thunderstorms.
“Residents of these areas are advised not to take shelter under trees to avoid possibilities of lightning strikes,” Macharia said.
He indicated heavy rains would continue throughout the week in Central and Western Kenya, accompanied by strong winds that may damage weak structures and cause flooding and mudslides.
The acting director of meteorological services, Peter Ambenje, said rains would be of benefit to farmers in agricultural regions.
The areas include Kitale, Kakamega, Eldoret, Kisumu, Kisii, Kericho and Nyahururu.Others are Nairobi area, Embu, Nyeri, Meru, Murang’a, Mombasa, Kilifi, Malindi, Msabaha and Lamu.
“North Western Kenya, Northern Kenya including Moyale and Marsabit, North Eastern and South Eastern Kenya are expected to receive generally depressed rainfall [but] some of these areas may experience a few days of intense rainfall,” Ambenje added.
