Maize and wheat farmers in Uasin Gishu County on Sunday staged demonstrations outside Eldoret Grains Limited (Dola), demanding payments for their produce they had delivered to the company.

The over 100 farmers accused the company of delayed payments amounting to over Sh400,000.

The farmers claimed they have not been paid the supplied produce for the past three months.

They urged the local leadership, led by Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago to intervene and ensure they are paid in full.

"It looks like we were duped into supplying our produce to this company as for the past three months we have not been paid anything. To make the matters worse there has been no communication from the management as to why we are yet to receive our money," lamented one of the farmer David Kiprotich.

"Banks are now after us, we have no cash, schools are opening and now we don't know what to do," he added.

Efforts by the farmers to seek explanation from the management hit a snag as they were locked out.

Journalists were also denied access to the company's premises.Eldoret Grain limited manufactures Dola Maize and Wheat flour that is sold locally.
