Nakuru County Assembly has passed a motion that seeks to have the county government set up Cerebral Palsy Units in each sub-county’s Health Centres.
The motion floated by nominated MCA Beatrice Nyawira also aims at having modern equipment purchased for the Targeted Centres.
Nyawira noted that the fact that the condition is not fully treatable, several programmes can be put in place including therapy to control the condition.
“I have noted that Nakuru County has many cerebral palsy cases which result to parent literally hiding their affected children or locking them up for fear of discrimination, therefore setting up of this facilities will ensure that specialised care for affected children,’’ said Nyawira.
Meanwhile Rhonda Ward MCA John Macharia wants the county government to establish rehabilitation centres and programmes for those affected by drugs in the county.
The MCA who early this week sponsored a motion in the Assembly said that with the recent passing of the alcoholic drinks control act 2014, the county government should collude with NACADA to assist persons addicted to alcohol consumption in each Ward to rehabilitate and to also have a referral facility in the county.
Macharia said that the move will prevent affected persons from suffering further.
