The students reportedly frog marched deputy principal Wilson Motanya accusing him of imposing them to unprecedented punishments and confiscation of mobile phones.

The students had held school watchman hostage before breaking Mr Motanya’s house located within the school compound before pelting him with stones that left him nursing serious injuries.

But Mrs Chae condemned the incident and challenged Bonyunyu secondary school parents to take responsibility for ‘improper’ behaviour of their children.

“I am really mesmerised that our children can take the law into their hands by almost killing someone who is trying to help them. I condemn the incident with strongest terms possible and I challenge parents to the school to take responsibility for improper conduct of their children,” Chae said.

“The act was primitive and unwarranted in my opinion and deserves punishment from the government to avert such incidents. The Deputy School head was simply doing his job by implementing an education act which bans use of mobile phones in schools,” she added.

She also challenged the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to launch fresh investigations and take appropriate actions on masterminds of the incident.

“This is an action that should not be ignored. I want to challenge CID to carry out investigations and take appropriate actions on the masterminds. It’s a crime to invade one’s compound at 2am with ill motives,” she told the reporter.

The government of Kenya had banned the use of mobile phones in schools in 2008 after it emerged that the gadget was contributing to student unrest in schools.
