Nyamira woman representative Alice Chae now wants women in Gusii region to go for more leadership positions as a way of doing away with profiling of women in the community.
The Gusii community is on record of not electing women to Parliament until the introduction of the woman rep position that was established by the 2010 Constitution.
Speaking to this reporter on Tuesday, Chae tasked women to not only focus on the women rep seat but also other electable positions in the constitution.
“Gusii women have been profiled for a long time and time has come for them to run for electable positions, not just the woman representative seat. We have seen our friends in other parts of the country electing women to Parliament,” she said.
“Gusii women can lead and all we need to have is self-esteem. I am ready to support those willing to rum for even MCA positions because we cannot rely on being nominated all times,” added the ODM women rep.
Currently, Nyamira County has two elected MCAs from the 20 wards among them Teresa Nyaanga of Esise and Callen Atuya of Bokeira.
