The Thursday’s campaign was sponsored by the national government, the Kenya Anti-FGM Board and the office of the woman representative.

Speaking during the flagging off of the one-day roadshow at Ekerenyo, Mrs Chae who was accompanied by Linah Kilimo, said her office is fully dedicated to invest in the campaign and urged residents to embrace the message and spread it to other parts.

“Female genital mutilation is a catastrophe and I am determined to ensure it is completely eradicated in the Abagusii community. I am ready to invest in such campaigns and other similar activities to ensure the message reaches everybody,” she said.

“The community must embrace the idea so that we move as a team. For this investment to be worthwhile, we need more civic education and as your woman representative, I am ready to support the course and get positive results,” she added.

She urged residents to work closely with local administration and report people who were reluctant to adhere to government regulation that ban FGM.

“Even as I put more effort in facilitating such campaigns, we need to know about a legislation which prohibits the act. It’s illegal and I want to challenge locals to work with administration to ensure perpetrators are brought to book,” she said.
