The office has also partnered with like-minded organisations to condemn gender-based violence which is synonymous in the Gusii region.

On Wednesday during the graduation of over 150 girls who had undergone an alternative rite of passage courtesy of the Vinbel Foundation, the team from Chae’s office challenged the community to discard traditional rites of passage by practising zero tolerance to FGM.

“FGM is a backward practice that does not make sense to our community. My humble plea to parents is that let's wage a war against this vice because it has repeatedly endangered the lives of our children especially those who are anaemic,” said Martha Makori.

“We should embrace the modern rites of passage for our girls by bringing them to such centres for advanced teaching on how to carry out themselves. FGM only exposes our children to danger especially when delivering,” she added.

Office manager Esther Obwoge, also challenged the community to desist from condoning gender-based violence which she said was ruining a lot of marriages.

“As the woman rep's office, we are also keen on condemning gender-based violence. The community should stand up against the vice since it has ruined many offices,” she said.
