The Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) has welcomed the reopening of Nakumatt main branch in Eldoret town.

KNCCI Uasin Gishu branch vice chairman Willy Kenei says the reopening of the branch comes as a sigh of relief to many locals who were, directly and indirectly, benefiting from through employment opportunities.

Speaking in Eldoret, Thursday, Kenei further said the move will boost the economy of the town.

"Existing supermarkets are not enough for the growing Eldoret population and the exit of Nakumatt was a blow to not only the town's economy but also hundreds of families that depended on it either directly or indirectly," said Mr. Kenei.

"On behalf of the business community in this county I want to thank the supermarket's move to resume their operations," he added.

Nakumatt's main branch in Eldoret town resumed operations early this week after its management resolved with the tenant the sh21 million unpaid rent row.

The landlord, Eldo Centre, had repossessed the premises on November 3.The Nakumatt's main branch is, however, operating with a skeleton staff and without most commodities with other branch located along Ronald Ngala street also in operation.
