Mudanyi, hopes to make the cut for the lucrative event that organizers have doubled the price kitty to Sh62.5 million for the tournament and tees off on March 22-25. The Vet Lab Club member says he is happy to play in Kenya Open, which is a step for any amateur golfer to play at that level.

“I would say it is a great achievement as an amateur to play at that level and I will do my best,” said Mudanyi, who has shifted his training to the Muthaiga Golf course.

Mudanyi qualified to play in the Kenya Open as a champion of the KAGC and will join Kenyan professional golfers under the umbrella of Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK).

Mudanyi took the initiative to train at Muthaiga to familiarise with the course: “Muthaiga has been my place since I was young but recently there has been a lot of changes on the course which makes it more challenging but will not deter my determination to perform well,” he added.

He will be joined by Dennis Saikwa of Royal Nairobi Golf Club who finished second, Limuru’s John Karichu, Vet Lab’s Mike Kisia, Samuel Njoroge from Railway Golf club and Daniel Nduva from Nyali golf.

However, Mudanyi is a focus and has a long-term plan of doing well in the Kenya Golf circuit and maybe become the first Kenyan to win the title. “I have plans of defending my overall title and I need a minimum of five wins to enable me to take home the title,” said Mudanyi.

He continued to say that he wants to start a year with a bowl win, during Sigona Bowl golf tournament, the opening meeting of Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) at par 72 Sigona Golf Club this weekend.
