The Biomedical students cried foul over the course, saying that it has not been accredited by the national body.

Addressing the students, Kisii University Vice Chancellor, Prof. John Akama urged students to always approach their grievances in a pragmatic manner to avoid commotion within the institution, saying that they always embrace dialogue unlike other institutions of higher learning.

“My students, let us be patient as your grievances are being worked on, we at Kisii University embrace dialogue unlike other institution of higher learning,” he added.

Biomedical students had raised issues concerning their eligibility as health practitioners, saying that they may be doomed since their course seem not to be accredited by the National Body for accreditation of medical courses.

“You can only be indexed by the medical board only after being trained as a Medical Laboratory Science and Technology, but that is why we are in need of this new course to commence within this institution,” a health student said.

Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. Amutabi reiterated the chancellor’s statement, and he also assured the affected student to be patient as Kisii University delegation will leave for Nairobi come Monday to come up with the medical curriculum as stipulated by the accrediting board.

Medical students vowed never to get back to class, and even said they are not ready to undertake their forth coming exams until their issues are fully addressed.

The closed door meeting was also attended by the Deputy VC academic affairs Prof. Owino, Dean Faculty of Health, Dr. Mugoa, Head of Department Enock Amboga, Lab Technologist Jared Ongwae, and Assistant Dean of Students, Bro. Francis Kerongo.
