Businessman Manu Chandaria has unveiled a peace initiative aimed at preaching peace ahead of the 2017 general elections.
The initiative is under Global Peace Foundation (GPF) where Dr Chandaria is the country’s patron.
“Elections do not just happen to be peaceful. We have to plan and make them peaceful. We do not want to witness another ugly side similar to that of 2008,” said Chandaria.
The initiative dubbed OneNationUnderGod would bring together youths from various parts of the country to address issues of negative ethnicity and hate speech.
GPS is carrying out the initiative in partnership with the National Police Service, National Counter-terrorism Centre, National Cohesion and Integration Commission, Brand Kenya, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, Kenya Private Sector Alliance and the European Union, among others.
GPS promotes an innovative, value-based approach to peace-building.
The initiative will be expected to reach out to areas like Kibera where the potential to spark mass violence has been said to be relatively high.
