Mr Nakoru said that most residents in the country are either addicts or brewers of chang'aa.

“Food production from Nyamira farms is low because Nyamira residents are spending most of their time making, selling and consuming chang’aa instead of preparing their farms to realize high yields which they will sell to earn a living,” said Nakoru.

According to him, despite the government's efforts to end the illegal businesses in the region very few people were adhering to the set rules and laws.

“Security officers are doing everything possible to end the making and selling of chang’aa in the region but some people in deep villages are still ongoing with the illegal dealings," he said.

"Chang’aa has made several pupils to drop school because their families are being used as illicit brews dens,” he added.

The commissioner assured that anyone found making and selling chang’aa will be arrested and taken to court.

He said the courts will not be lenient to illicit brew sellers and makers.
