Kiogoro Division Administration Police Commandant Barrack Ochieng issued the warning noting that they want to wipe out the trade.

The officer disclosed that his unit had successfully eliminated illicit liquor dens near churches and schools in the area as a way of maintaining peace and security.

"I took the unprecedented step of going to the chang’aa dens myself, disguised a common drunkard in civilian attire. Whenever they served me with the illicit liquor, I had them arrested and taken to court to face the law,” he said.

Ochieng revealed that he had decided to deal with the problem of repeat offenders by asking magistrates to give them custodial sentences instead of the heavy fines which are usually the norm in such cases.

He also said that the officers had identified hardcore chang’aa drinkers and warned them of the drastic consequences if they persisted on being arrested in the swoops carried out by the APs.

The inspector lauded the residents for their cooperation and support for his security program.
