Sources told this writer that police from Bahati police station raided the den at Muchanganyiko village and arrested several dealers and patrons in a dramatic swoop that attracted curious members of the public. More than 50 litres of the illicit drink were also seized in the raid.

“We have declared war on these people because they are ruining lives in this area. We shall make sure that we completely destroy their illegal activities,” said area Chief Mary Kamau.

She added that the swoop was in line with the ongoing security operations in the area to wipe out crime and illegal alcohol sources that have greatly contributed to health, insecurity and unemployment problems.

Kamau said four women and two men who were found brewing chang’aa are being held at Bahati police station and will be charged in court.

Last month, the chief led a contingent of police officers who raided several ‘miti ni dawa’ selling dens in the area where thousands of the illicit drinks were destroyed and the structures torched while tens of operators and patrons mainly unemployed youth were arrested.

This followed a security meeting in the area that addressed the increasing crime rate where village elders blamed the illicit joints for harbouring criminals.
