The jackets are engraved with numbers, which will be used to identify the operators.

The move is aimed at making it easy to truck down any individual who takes part in crime.

The bodaboda operators were also assigned designated stages where they should operate.

Mwinyi further said that the operators will be given insurance packages, in a bid to improve their services.

“After this launch, we want to start a policy of issuing all the riders with insurance packages that will aid them during accidents or theft, besides accessing better health care,” said Mwinyi.

This comes following reports of armed thugs using bodabodas to rob residents.

The motorbikes are said to enable criminals to escape easily, giving police officers a tough time hunting them down.
