Embattled Changamwe MP Omar Mwinyi will know his fate on Thursday when a Mombasa court is expected to issue a ruling on whether to prefer new charges against him following the violence that rocked ODM nominations on Saturday. The development comes hot on the heels of a ruling by Mombasa Chief Magistrate Evans Makori who deferred the the charges against the lawmaker to give the Orange Party time to resolve the matter internally. But despite the temporary reprieve that the legislator got, the office of the Director of Public Prosecution swiftly petitioned the Magistrate's ruling ordering for the charging of the ODM politician.Should the court rule in favour of the DPP, then Mwinyi will face nine new charges including creating disturbance, assault and causing bodily harm to a police office and obstructing the presiding office from carrying out his duties.Mwinyi is deadlocked in a tight contest with his fiercest rival Dan Aloo in the race to clinch the priced ODM ticket to run for the Changamwe parliamentary seat ahead of the August elections.
