Women from different parts of the nation are contesting for various elective posts in the forthcoming general election.The outcome of both Jubilee and NASA affiliate parties' nominations indicate the country is likely to end up with several female governors after the August polls, argues Macharia Munene, a professor at the United States International University (USIU).“This time, at least two women are almost guaranteed of the position,” said Munene, as quoted by The Star. Munene argued women have proven they can lead in different capacities including Women Rep positions, MP, Senator, Governor and even President."They might win because they have proven themselves as capable leaders in previously held positions," he said.One of the female aspirants who is likely to bag the governors seat is former Devolution Cabinet secretary Anne Waiguru who defeated Kirinyaga Governor Joseph Ndathi in a tight race.Sotik MP Lornah Laboso also stands a chance of winning the Bomet governorship race after bagging the Jubilee ticket. Laboso will be seeking to unseat Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) leader Isaac Ruto, who recently joined NASA as a co-principal. Former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti has joined the race to unseat Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua while NARC Kenya leader Martha Karua is also contesting for the Kirinyaga governorship.In Kitui, Former Lands Minister Charity Kaluki Ngilu is seeking to beat Dr Julius Malombe after he trounced Senator David Musila during the Wiper primaries.
