As the race for presidency ahead of the 2017 general election heats up, the Luo Council of Elders have urged ODM party leader Raila Odinga to change tact by becoming more tough lest the seat will elude him again.
According to the council's Secretary General Owino Nyady, Raila's trusting and forgiving attitude has cost him the presidency.
Nyady said the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, who is Raila's father shelved his presidential ambitions until Jomo Kenyatta was released from prison only for the first president to turn against him.
He also gave instances where Mr Odinga supported Kibaki's election in 2002 only for Kibaki to turn up against him in the subsequent elections.
"Raila endorsed Kibaki. In 2013, his community defended the seat vehemently for a third consecutive time," he said.
Nyady who was speaking on Sunday in Ugunja said the community should change tact when negotiating with other regions lest they will be shortchanged again.
"Our humbleness is not well administered and practiced in current politics. Others can easily take advantage," he added.
He further went on to endorse Raila's presidential bid saying he is the right man to face off President Uhuru Kenyatta in the 2017 poll.
