Police harassment has more often than not been one of the things that have tarnished the glory of respectable members of the uniformed force.
The public mistrusts the men and women in blue, and very few would bank their trust on a policeman or policewoman.
But this seems to have changed gradually with the rise of a group of Administration Police officers spreading the gospel in various towns within the country.
On Monday, more than 10 APs camped at Salgaa where they left many tongues wagging after giving a very strong message about corruption and prostitution.
The sermon was given by one of them, an inspector and his words were so moving.
Together with his team, he really deserves a hearty clap because he showed that they too, have a human heart.
Who would expect a police officer to stand up to a crowd and say, “mimi sitaki kitu kidogo, nataka kitu kikubwa kutoka kwa mungu… (I don’t want something small, I want something big from God..)?
This is unheard of from anybody serving in the force.
“Something small” is what characterises them. The minute you spot him whether in uniform or not, your mind remembers he lives on something small.
They have sought to change the notion that crime can only be dealt with using bullets.
They have a new approach which they said was the gospel and it has complemented efforts made by the barrel of a gun in keeping crime at bay.
How I wish that others would follow suit as the bar has been set.
Let us have a Kenya where the public can bank their trust in police; police men and women who fear God and always put public’s interest first before bribes.
