Kiambu County Government will expand Chania Bridge near Blue Post Hotel at a tune of Sh200 million, Thika sub-county administrator Rose Muthoni has said.
Muthoni, speaking in her office on Thursday, said that the expansion will help ease traffic at the narrow bridge that connects Kiambu to Muranga County, with the exercise being done in collaboration with Thika Shah Community.
"We are expecting to start the expansion in the soonest time possible and the work is going to cost us Sh200 million," said Muthoni.
"The Shah community will be working with us to help us ease traffic jams at the bridge and sections of the road adjacent to it," she added.
The administrator noted that the regular traffic jams at the bridge were affecting several commuters, businessmen, motorists among other roads users.
She also said that the expansion was going to help reduce traffic accidents that have now become rampant around the area, but did not, however, reveal the exact time when the expansion work will start, only saying that the paperwork is ready.
Recently, a section of boda boda operators operating near Blue Post called on the county government to expand the bridge in the light of increasing accidents near the area.
