Kiambu County TNA coordinator Gladys Chania has asked the Kiambu government to establish centres in every sub-county to cater for the needs of children living with disabilities.
Speaking to journalists in Ruiru Town on Friday, Chania said that the rights of many children living with disabilities in the county were being infringed.
The TNA coordinator said that through establishment of the the centres, the children will be counseled, treated and given a chance to attend school.
“The Kiambu County government with the help of stakeholders should establish centres in every sub-county to help children with disabilities so that their rights and welfare can be protected,” she said.
The TNA coordinator said that the rights and dignity of disabled children must be protected.
She said that cases of parents mistreating and denying disabled children access to basic needs remain high in the county.
“We must support and protect the dignity and welfare of disabled children as stipulated in the constitution,” she said.
She asked the government to seek support of Non-governmental Organisations (NGOs), corporate organisations and faith based organisations in protecting and promoting the welfare of persons living with disabilities in the county.
