Naivasha Sub County Education officer Mbugua Kabage wants the State to channel more resources to the education sector.
Kabage notes that the sector needs more resources to enable more Kenyans access learning adding that proper investment in the education sector will help address many issues facing the country.
“My request is to the government to channel more resources to the education sector. A lot needs to be done in order to make education affordable and accessible to Kenyans,” he said when he addressed the media at Naivasha town on Saturday.
The education officer urged the government to employ more teachers so that they can handle the high number of students. He said that most schools in Naivasha are understaffed hence the need for recruitment of more teachers.
Kabage noted that teacher’s welfare should also be considered especially for those working in hardship areas.
At the same time, he warned students in the area against taking part in unlawful activities such as drug abuse and prostitution.
He said that drug abuse remains a big challenge that calls for urgent measures adding that parents must play part in the fight against drug and substance abuse among school children.
“We continue to receive cases of students abusing drugs and engaging in other unlawful activities. If not controlled, drug abuse will continue to affect education standards in the sub county,” he said.
