A woman is nursing injuries after she was allegedly shot by a stray bullet, following chaos that erupted when bodaboda riders and security officers clashed in Likoni, Mombasa County.
The woman, identified as Emily Akinyi, was hit on the abdomen during the confrontation, after more than 300 bodaboda operators stormed Likoni police station, protesting the arrest of their colleagues who were nabbed during an early morning crackdown.
Police officers were forced to actively engage the irate bodaboda operators, who flocked the police station in an effort to free their colleagues, claiming that they had not committed any crime.
Business and transport was paralysed for hours in the region, with some business operators being forced to close their businesses and flee the chaotic scene.
However, Likoni OCPD Willy Simba said no one had been shot, adding that his officers used tear gas canisters to disperse the operators.
He further said that they would continue to crackdown on unregistered operators.
