Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi’s rally on Wednesday turned chaotic after supporters of Malindi MP Willy Mtengo and Kilifi Women Representative Aisha Jumwa clashed.
Kingi had a hard time calming down the rowdy youth, who had attended the rally held at the Malindi Stadium.
Despite the fact that the rally was meant to welcome Governor Kingi after appearing before the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), the event turned into a platform to showcase political supremacy.
Trouble started when Mtengo took the podium to introduce other legislators at the event. He rubbished Ms Jumwa’s candidature, urging her to show him some respect.
“Come slowly. I am going to show you dust during the party nominations. Do not be fooled by people, all these are my supporters and they shall feast on your money and then vote for me,” he said, as quoted by Nation.
He termed Jumwa as a 'visitor' saying she should respect the current leadership in the area.
“Governor Kingi you should also know Malindi has a sitting MP, we have to respect each other as leaders,” he added.
Chaos erupted after Jumwa went to the podium, with her supporters chanting 'Mtengo must go'.
Police officers and Governor Kingi had to step in to quell the situation, asking the youth to remain calm.
“We members of ODM party are a family and we should love one another and treat each other with dignity. Unless you have been sent here with bad intention to disrupt the rally,” he said.
Jumwa stormed out of the meeting and went to a different rally at Alaskan grounds.
