Mbita Member of Parliament Millie Odhiambo has accused the police in the region of failing to act, following assault case, that saw one of her supporter dead.

The incident reportedly happened after supporters of her rival clashed with hers. She said the police were informed of the violence prior, but failed to act.

She had earlier Monday, announced on social media that she had been accosted by people armed with guns, pangas and other crude weapons in the constituency, as she sought to cast her ODM nomination vote.

The party conducted nominations in the entire Homabay county, Monday April 24, as Millie seeks to defend her seat.

The strong ODM supporter accused her rival, Jim Akali, of being behind the attack, saying many of her supporters had also been injured. Her campaign vehicle was also smashed."There is chaos and mayhem in Mbita. I have been accosted by people brandishing pangas, guns and crude weapons. My supporters have been attacked by goons from Kisumu with one of them in critical condition. The person doing this is Jim Akali. I urge my supporters to be calm in face of extreme provocation," she posted.

Addressing the press later, Odhiambo said the supporter succumbed to injuries, as the police vowed to take over the matter.

She called on the police to conduct immediate investigations, and ensure persons behind the attack are brought to book.
