There was chaos at the Lamu West constituency tallying centre at Mokowe Arid Zone Primary School on Thursday after candidates allied to the National Super Alliance (NASA) rejected the election results.

Incumbent Women Representative Shakilla Abdalla and Lamu West MP candidate Rishad Amana expressed dissatisfaction, citing rigging and irregularities in the results that had been announced so far.Provisional results indicated that Amana was losing to Maendeleo Chap Chap Movements’ Stanley Muthama. Muthama had garnered 11,462 against Amana’s 10,034 votes. Amana and Abdalla pointed an accusing finger at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), accusing them of rigging the election in favour of their opponents. “Something fishy is going on and that is why we are staying put. The IEBC has no right to order anyone to accept results of a rigged exercise. There were electoral malpractices and we can’t agree we have lost,” said Amana, as quoted by The Star. “The IEBC wants to steal our votes and hand them to our opponents on a silver platter. We shall not allow them to undermine the choice of the people,” added Abdalla.
