Supporters allied to two Marsabit leaders clashed on Wednesday at a venue Jubilee Party leader President Uhuru Kenyatta was to campaign.
The supporters of Governor Ukur Yattani of Frontier Alliance Party and Mohamud Mohamed Ali, alias Abshiro of Jubilee pelted stones at each other while chanting slogans of the leaders.
The two leaders, seeking the county’s top seat, come from two dominant tribes in the county (Gabbra and Boran).
Both clans want one of their own to be governor after August 8 polls.
Clan and tribe play a major role in Marsabit politics.
It took the intervention of police to restore calm, with more security personnel being called in to help restore order at the Moi Girls grounds.
