Charcoal sellers in Maseno are a smilling lot due high profits courtsey of increasing sales, attributerd to the rainy season.

According to the sellers, the rate at which people are buying charcoal is increasing day by day as many are stocking up for the cold season.

Speaking to this writer on Tuesday, the traders said since the year began, this moment is when they are making reasonable profits.

"The year has been tough, but with the rains here people have began preparing themselves as a majority depends on charcoal for cooking and warming," said Harriet Akinyi.

A majority of the traders said over the past two weeks, profits has been at around Sh1000, daily compared to other months when there was a dry spell.

"Sometimes one could go home with only Sh200 as profit, but now things are really changing quickly in our favour," said Jackson Akolo a charcoal seller in Maseno.

Some of the customers who spoke to this writer said they majorly depend on firewood for cooking and heating, but when it rains it becomes difficult to acquire the firewood.

"Getting firewood in the rainy season is not an easy thing, we therefore prefer using charcoal because it convenient at this time of the year," said Silas Okal.
