After losing the hotly-contested Malindi by-election to ODM's Willy Mtengo in 2016, Philip Charo kept off the political scene, leaving many guessing about his next political move. However, with barely five months remaining to the August polls, the Jubilee man has made a grand return into the political space ready to unseat his 2016 bitter rival. With only a margin of 5000 votes between the two politicians during the by-election, Charo believes the is now the man to beat in the race for the constituency, and poked holes in Mtengo's one year tenure in office. While rallying Malindi residents to support his bid, Charo asked them to reject Mtengo's re-election owing to his “incompetence and lack of vision” for the constituency."Malindi people made a very big mistake by electing Mtengo. How can one be a leader who operates alone without the support of MCAs? This hinders development,” said Charo, as quoted by The Star. The aspirant said he gave Mtengo time to prove his leadership skills, something he claims that the ODM man has failed to do in the 12 months he has been in office.Mtengo is already engaged in a tough battle with Kilifi Women Representative Aisha Jumwa who is keen to unseat him on an ODM ticket.
