IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati said the electoral body will unveil an audited voter register and the model through which voters will be identified on polling day will not give room for unregistered people to vote.
“The IEBC is committed to conducting peaceful, free, fair and credible elections,” he said while briefing Kenyans on the preparedness of the commission for the election.
“Voters will be identified electrically and there shall be no room for dead people to vote.”
The IEBC contracted KPMG to audit the voters register after which it was established that over 90,000 names of dead people were in the register.
The opposition before the audit claimed there were more than one million dead voters in the register.
Chebukati said the Kenya Integrated Management System will not give room for vote rigging and claims of planned ballot stuffing will not happen.
He said unlike the 2013 when the IEBC hired services of telecommunications giant Safaricom, the electoral body, in 2017 has hired services of the country’s three major mobile communication providers—Safaricom, Airtel and Telecom Kenya.
He said satellite communication will be applied in voter identification and results transmission in case of network failure.
“There shall be no room for rigging during the August election,” Chebukati said.
