IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati has responded to his critics hours after one of his commissioners Roselyn Akombe resigned unexpectedly.
Chebukati maintained that he is more committed to ensure Kenyans experience free, fair, and credible polls with him at the helm of the commission despite the attacks his office receives from both political divides in the country.
"My actions in this noble office will define my life and that of my family. As a lawyer, I cannot continue to be pushed by the majority of the commissioners," said Chebukati.
The chairman also urged the staffs within IEBC who have been adversly mentioned to step aside for proper investigations into their matters.
Chebukati also called for unity in his team stating categorically that he cannot operate fully and would not be frustrated in executing his mandate as the chairman.
"I cannot move forward with a divided commission, yet I will also not go down into history as the chairman who plunged the country into a deeper crisis," he added.
Finally, Chebukati reaffirmed his commitment to serving the nation under his capacity as the chairman rubbishing any claims that he is set to resign from office.
