Independent electoral and Boundaries Commission Chairman Wafula Chebukati has dismissed chances of resigning following nullification of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election.
On Friday, Supreme Court had invalidated election of Kenyatta on grounds that the commission failed to adhere to the constitution when conducting elections.
And what is seen as a justification, Chebukati seemed to be pointing fingers at the Secretariat and urged DPP to investigate conduct of unnamed officers.
“I will not resign because I believe that we conducted free and fair elections. The problem was in transmission and those responsible shall take responsibility,” he said.
He added: “We have very strict timelines and we must adhere to the constitution. Let those who may have failed on their part face the full force of the law.”
He said the commission was still new in office adding that they had not development a good working mechanism with the secretariat, a statement that may bring more confusion.
According to the law, the country will yet again go for another fresh election within 60 days following the determination.
