Former IEBC commissioner Roselyne Akombe says chairman Wafula Chebukati can no longer make decisions due to his non executive powers.
In unprecedented move, Akombe resigned from US claiming that her life was in danger due to her persistent calls to have internal reforms within the commission.
And in an interview with KTN News, Akombe said Cahebukati was held hostage by a section of commissioners given most of the policies are executed based on majority votes.
"The chairman has a goodwill and no matter how he tries to give directions, his moves are thwarted given that most commissioners are partisan.
"His powers are not executive so he has to adhere to majority decision that is made through a vote. He is under siege and needs an external intervention.
Last week, the Saturday Standard claimed that Chebukati had to storm out of the meeting after the majority commissioners voted in favour of October 26th elections contrary to his view.
Akombe further said the outcome of the October poll could be yet again nullified by the Supreme Court since IEBC was 'repeating' same mistakes that led to nullification of August polls.
