The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has responded to a call by the opposition that the government plans to rig the next polls.
Speaking during a meeting with the top leadership of NASA, IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati said they are checking the systems to identify and seal any loopholes.
The opposition laid bare their issues over the next elections, tasking the commission to ensure they are checked in good time before the polls.
“We have raised a number of issues, and we have said many times that this country cannot afford another flawed electoral process,” said Raila Odinga.
Chebukati promised to deliver a free election come August, and noted that they are already putting measures in place to ensure they implement all in good time.
“’We will conduct a free and fair election, come August 8 this year,” said Chebukati.
Besides challenging the commission to be neutral, the opposition in its memorandum called on the commission to address fears that the government plans to rig the next polls.
Nasa has continually claimed that Jubilee is continually altering records at IEBC, the architect being a former CS, who once served as a commissioner at the institution.
They also alleged that the commission’s ICT is compromised and needs an overhaul
“We will ensure there are no loopholes in ICT or any other issue or human resource,” added Chebukati.
